Netflix Bought Rights to ‘Earwig and the Witch’.
Netflix has acquired the licensing rights for “Earwig and the Witch,” the movie from award-winning Japanese animation studio Studio Ghibli. The film was directed by veteran director Goro Miyazaki through Studio Ghibli.
The animated movie tells the story of a young girl who grows up in an orphanage. Her life changes dramatically when a strange couple takes her in. Based on the novel by British author Diana Wynne Jones, the screenplay was written by Niwa Keiko and Gunji Emi.
The movie will be available on the streaming platform from November 18. “We were shocked by the positive response from global audiences, proving that stories can come from anywhere and be loved anywhere,” said Aram Yacoubian, director of animated films at Netflix.
